Procedure to run GSM and RSM with the latest NCEP initial condition.

cvs co INSTALL
./install and select gsm as model.

Note: Since the procedure ftp gets T382L64 file, it may take a long time to transfer the file from NCEP to your machine if the internet connection is slow. The script displays "#" mark to show the progress of the file transfer.
The global forecast will be run for 5 days and rsm for 48 hours. This can be changed by editing the gsmrt and rsmrt scripts.
When the rsmrt script is configured, you will see several choices for the domain. If you want to add other areas, please let us know.
If you have any problems in using this procedure, please let us know.

GFS changes

Hi,
NCEP has posted scheduled changes of GFS on its website:-
http://www.nco.ncep.noaa.gov/pmb/changes/
There will a model upgrade of GFS on 1 May 2007. Is this going to affect GSM (or RSM) if NCEP's initial conditions are used to run GSM and then RSM? I suppose that GSM and RSM will not be affected if NCEP/NCAR re-analysis data are used as GSM's initial conditions. Please correct me if my understanding is wrong.

Hi - yes you are right. Reanalysis data will be the same. We are working to update our model to read the new NCEP output correctly with G-RSM.

GFS change - 20081209

hko 12 December 2008 02:00:24

Hi,
There has been a recent update of the GFS:
http://www.nco.ncep.noaa.gov/pmb/changes/
12/9/2008
GFS - formulation of the freezing level will be changed, several new parameters will be added to the output files, and fix to calculation of precipitation type

I have been running GSM using GFS output. Do I need to patch the GSM codes?
