2023.01.30
Happy New Year, although it is very late.
This is an update from the last post (July).
Vu Quynh Anh Cao (Annie) from the Frontier Research Area and Roman Olson (Roman) from Korea joined us as specially appointed researchers from October. In addition,
Cheng Jingya (Jinya) and Li Hongmei (Hongmei) also joined us in the Frontier Research Area doctoral program from October. Both are from China. Kamei is also helping us as a secretary. Meanwhile,
Yin Gaohong (Gaohong) will return to his home country of China in January. He will become an associate professor at Jilin University. Wonderful.
The photo was taken after the mini-symposium to unveil the large sphere, which was held in conjunction with the Kashiwa Open House in October 2022. Yamazaki and other members of the Yamazaki Laboratory and alumni came all the way to see us.

Member Introduction
2021.09.15
It’s been a while, but I’d like to introduce the changes in members during that time.
April: Dr. Ryo Kaneko joined as a new JSPS PD. He is an AI specialist who originally got his doctorate from Professor Nihei at Tokyo University of Science.
April: Shuhei Nomura joined as a new M1 student. He was in the River Research Institute in his fourth year, but he started his master’s degree with a fresh start. He was active in the rowing club.
June: Haruya Yoshikawa joined as a new B4 student. He is not afraid of English meetings, and gives the impression of being a big shot.
August: Alexandre Cauquoin, who was a JSPS Foreign Special Research Fellow, transferred to the Abe Laboratory at the Atmosphere and Ocean Research Institute after two years. Let’s continue to work closely together.
August: Secretary Miyagi-san retired. Thank you for your long support!
September: Hajime Hayakawa, a second-year M2 student, will leave for London to study abroad. Taking on challenges head-on will surely be beneficial for your future.
We are still a large group, but we will do our best, so we appreciate your guidance and support.
Press release
2021.09.15
Regarding flood prediction, which I wrote about in the previous article, we released a press release when Ma et al., 2021 was published. Congratulations, Ma!

Looking at the altmetrics above, it’s pretty noteworthy among Nature group papers.
Scientific Reports Press Release
2021.09.15
We have issued a press release on the paper by Tada-kun, who graduated in 2019, which was published by Scientific Reports on September 14th. Although it is not as significant in terms of social impact as the flood research, Dempa Shimbun has picked it up without any hesitation. Thank you!
