Kashiwa Science Camp (KSC) 2025 was held from February 17 to 20, 2026. In this very short period, four Bachelor students engaged in discussions, hands-on model simulations, data visualization, and presentations. This year’s topic continued and, in a different light, revisited the previous year’s study: When does the rain that precipitates in Japan arrive in Brazil?

The students have shown great potential as researchers, and we hope that they achieve all the goals they aim for. Congratulations, KSC team and students!
The global version of JAXA’s Today’s Earth (TE-Global), which the Yoshimura Laboratory is collaborating with, has been updated. Please take a look.
Because of some issues, the website was unavailable for a while, but it was re-opened at the beginning of March. We apologize for any inconvenience.
Dr. Xiaogang HE with his students, a assistant professor from National University of Singapore visited Yoshimura’s Lab on 9/22 to have a joint SPEAR Workshop. We had special seminars by and open poster sessions. Dr.HE shared their latest research results about PREP–SHOT on renewable energy.

Yoshimura Laboratory will once again be present in the UTokyo Kashiwa Open Campus! This is year, it will be held on October 24 (Fri.)-25 (Sat.), 2025.
Please come to visit us at the Chiba Experiment Station of the Institute of Industrial Science!
For more information, please access Kashiwa Open Campus 2025.
During Aug. 7th-Aug.8th, Yoshimura’s Lab and Yamazaki’s Lab had held the KK summer intensive seminar at Ritsumenkan University on Aug.7th.
Yoshimura sensei gave a introduction talk at the beginning and Yamazaki sensei concluded at the end of the seminar. Students from Yoshimura’s Lab and Yamazaki’s Lab had given their presentations on the seminar and received from their supervisors and colleagues.

On Aug.8th, all members had a trip to the Fukui Prefectural Varve Museum and Mikata Five Lakes. At the museum, Nakagawa sensei gave us a talk about the varves and his out-coming research results considering the global climate change.
On July 22, a seminar was held with Korea National University of Transportation, Korea University and Incheon University.
The schedule was as follows:
16:00-16:30 Dr. Jongmin Park (The use of C-band SAR to explore water body, water level, and soil moisture)
16:30-17:00 Dr. Kyuhyun Byun (Reconstruction of Long-Term High-Quality Gridded Meteorological Datasets based on Deep Learning)
17:00-17:30 Two post-docs from Dr. Jun’s lab
1. Impacts of Rossby Wave Packets and Atmospheric Rivers on Meteorological Drought (Dr. Jungwoo Han)
2. Retrievals and analysis of satellite-based evapotranspiration (Dr. Jongjin Baik)
17:30-18:00 Q&A, General discussion
18:30- Socializing dinner
This event was a good opportunity to find out better what is being done in South Korea, but also to learn how our research is connected and how we can collaborate.

Ylab welcomes new students, post-docs and professors with a little party!
We hope that in the near future you can create strong connections within the lab. These will not only support you academically, but also as friends when you need them.

The project brochure for the research project led by Yoshimura, “Implementation of Long-Term Flood Prediction through the Integration of Satellite Observations and Model Simulations: Toward the Realization of a Society Free from Flood Disasters” (JST/Future Society Creation Project Full-Scale Research/JPMJMI24I1), has been completed.
This brochure provides an overview of long-term flood prediction technology and introduces the future that this technology could bring to our region once it is implemented in society. The future vision was created through discussions among researchers and practitioners from various fields who are members of this research project. Please take a look.
